Waning cultural cohesion in the traditional society due to modernisation have frayed the ties that once bound Kenyan families together extremely closely. In a country made of communities that revere the family unit bonds have weakened leaving individuals with a fickle sense of grounding.
Back then, family members cared for each other. There was a sense of community. One person’s problem became everybody’s problem. But now it’s man for himself and God for us all. About two decades ago, families provided a safety net to cushion people from life’s challenges. When an individual encountered a challenge may it be death of a loved one or poverty, strong ties of the traditional African family bridged the gap.
